Angiomas are benign growths made of small blood vessels. They can appear anywhere on the body. The two most common types are spider angiomas and cherry angiomas.
Cherry angiomas are red or purplish in color and don't usually grow larger than 1/4-inch in diameter. They can appear alone or in clusters.
Causes of the condition
No one knows what causes angiomas. Since they commonly appear after the age of 40, they are thought to be related to the normal ageing process.
Treatment
Angiomas are harmless. Most people have them treated for cosmetic reasons.
There are three ways to have angiomas removed
Electrodessication uses an electric needle to destroy the blood vessels in the growth.
Liquid nitrogen is a cold gas applied to the skin to freeze the growth.
Laser treatment uses a beam of intense, wavelength specific light to heat the blood within the angiomas. The heat then closes the blood vessel.
Laser therapy is the preferred method of treatment at dermarenew because incidence of scarring is much less as compared to liquid nitrogen or electrodessication.
Do Treatments Hurt?
There is a snapping sensation as the laser light is delivered to the skin to eradicate the angioma.
How many treatments?
Small angiomas generally respond to just one treatment. Larger angiomas may take 3-4 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart.
How long do treatments take?
Each angioma takes only seconds to treat.
Angiomas generally do not reoccur after successful treatment, but new angiomas can appear as part of the normal ageing process.
