Phototherapy is performed with broadband light. The results are a more vibrant, youthful skin tone.
Broadband light (BBL) uses a pulsed laser-like light set to the appropriate wavelength to treat a broad range of skin conditions caused by aging and sun damage. The upper layers of your skin will be gently heated by the light energy. This energy will target and eliminate fine vessels that cause redness and unwanted pigmentation.
What conditions can be treated?
• Age spots
• Sun spots
• Hyperpigmentation
• Melasma
• Small Facial Veins
• Rosacea
• Redness and Flushing
Phototherapy is recommended in a series of 3 - 5 sessions, spaced 3 - 4 weeks apart depending on the desired results. It is a noninvasive procedure with little to no downtime. Most patients will be able to return to work, apply make-up, and resume most of their activities following the procedure. The entire face is treated in less than 10 minutes. The neck, chest, arms and hands may also be treated safely and effectively.
Temporary redness and darkening of freckles and brown spots after each treatment is expected. Occasionally, slight swelling occurs under the eye. More serious side effects are rare, but most can be avoided by proper sun avoidance before and after the procedure.
Protecting skin from the sun and using medical grade skin care products are the best way to maintain results. Those who suffer from Rosacea may need to use topical or oral medicines to prevent the return of blood vessels that cause the excessive redness. After the initial series of treatments, one or two sessions per year is helpful to maintain results and keep brown spots and visible blood vessels at bay.
